the cellar door & the girl

i am a person of diverse interests and character. but all that really matters is the music.

if i have my way i’ll never ever get married. i’ve seen so many friends ruin their lives being in a marriage. they’re cheated on, they go into debt, suddenly their life has a whole different meaning, they lose their identity, they’re goals, and they’re dreams. sacrificing the life you want for the life you settle for. and people fucking change. not to say that when they got married that they didn’t feel like they’d be in love forever. but people and circumstances change and it’s nobody’s fault.

marriage would serve absolutely no function in my life. because it’s 2012, i can make my own money, vote, travel alone, follow my own ambitions. and i love zach. truly and wholeheartedly. i don’t think throwing a lavishly expensive and wasteful party (which would undoubtedly be sooo much fun and simultaneously put us into so much debt) would make me love him anymore, or make our love real.

our love is real because he supports me in all i do. and i he. no ceremony can replicate the respect we (usually) have for one another. i’m happy where we are. i need nothing else. and if things continue this way: AWESOME. but if for some reason they don’t, i would be so sad to lose such an amazing companion and friend, but i understand that circumstances change. and that it’s ok.

i don’t believe in soul mates. i feel a connection with many people in my life.

i just pity my friends and family who give up everything and sacrifice all for their marriage only to find their spouse (even the good ones) do not always follow suit. and suddenly they’re in their mid 40s with nothing left but legal bills.

fuck marriage.

*cough cough* Sarah Brightman…

I agree, the woman on the US tour was ghastly. I don’t even know who she was, she could’ve been the understudy for all I know but it was like Shirley Jones sings Phantom. eek. HOWEVER I admire women who can sing the part. ie. Gina Beck, Sierra Boggess, Katie Hall.

whoever wrote that bullshit about vibrato doesn’t know a thing about classical singing. a vibrato is the sign of a healthy voice. constricting it often leads to tension…which is why opera singers have 40 year careers and musical theatre performers are lucky if they get 10.
